Juniper MX useful commands

This article contains a practical collection of useful Juniper MX204 commands for checking PIC and FPC status, port capabilities, interface configuration, hardware inventory, alarms, power supplies and environmental sensors.

Check QSFP28 PIC and Port Capabilities

Display detailed information about PIC 0, including the installed transceiver and supported port speeds:

Check SFP+ PIC

Display information about PIC 1, which provides the eight SFP+ ports:

Check FPC and PIC Status

Use this command for a quick overview of the MPC and both PICs:

Activate 4x100G Ports Only

Example configuration with all four 100G ports enabled on PIC 0 and PIC 1 disabled:

Activate 3x100G and 8x10G Ports

Example configuration with three 100G ports on PIC 0 and all eight 10G ports on PIC 1:

Restart the FPC

After changing the physical port configuration, restart FPC 0:

Check 100G and 10G Interfaces

Verify the resulting 100G and 10G interfaces after the FPC configuration:

Display the complete hardware inventory, including the chassis, Routing Engine, MPC, PICs, installed transceivers, power supplies and fan trays:
